All FFXIV Dawntrail Shaaloani Aether Current locations

Get up in the desert dust with the help of this map of the Shaaloani aether currents in Final Fantasy XIV

All FFXIV Dawntrail Shaaloani Aether Current locations

Head to the Shaaloani Aether Currents locations in the map below to unlock the ability to fly through the wide and dusty skies of Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail’s answer to the wild west.

You’ll collect the majority of the Aether Currents in Shaaloani as you push through the relatively story missions. Doing so unlocks side-quests with more Aether Currents as rewards. Grab them all before you move on with the story if you want, or save them for the post-game to lap up some easy XP for your preferred alt class.

Run, walk, or ride your way to the circled map locations below to find the Aether Currents for the Shaaloani region. “!” signals the starting point of quests with Aether Current rewards. The quests section below details when they become available to complete.

Shaaloani Aether Currents quests

You’ll need to complete the following quests to get the remaining Aether Currents in Shaaloani:

  • When the Bill Comes Due | Side-quest (clear MSQ “Law of the Land” to unlock)
  • Meeting of the Spirits | Side-quest (clear MSQ “Lawn of the Land” to unlock)
  • Rroneek Seeker | Side-quest (clear MSQ “One with Nature” to unlock)
  • A Bad Case of the Blue Devils | Side-quest (clear MSQ “In Yyasulani’s Shadow” to unlock)
  • A Hot Commodity | MSQ

You won’t have to think about when to pick these up. Each set unlocks as you complete the main scenario quest chain that starts in that half of the map. You can’t miss them.

Like in Yak’Tel, there’s a rather annoyingly long side-quest involving a lost Rroneek here that gatekeeps one of the currents. Prepare yourself for that one.

What are Aether Currents?

Aether Currents are collectibles you’ll find in each major zone from Heavensward onward. Collect the lot to unlock the ability to fly mounts in that specific zone.

Though most are collected out in the field, side-quests and main story quests reward the rest of the Aether Currents you’ll need to unlock flying in a zone.

It’s largely believed that the aether current system is in place to slow down the potential rapid consumption of expansion content. The main quests guide you along a specific path through a zone, encouraging you to take in the sights and sounds of each new location—aspects you might otherwise skip over due to the conveniences of flight.
