How to unlock Pictomancer in FFXIV Dawntrail

New for Dawntrail and the 7.0 update, here’s how to unlock the Pictomancer class in Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail.

Starting at level 80, which makes the grind up to 100 far less gruelling than a class from the A Realm Reborn days, this new ranged magic job is sure to be a hit as the expansion kicks off. Time will tell of its staying power in high-end scenarios, but its adorableness is undeniable.

Where to unlock Pictomancer in Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail

To get started with the Pictomancer class, head to the Pictomancer unlock location at Old Gridania (coordinates X:8.0/Y:10.3) and look for the Cheerless Hearer NPC.

Feeling a little lost? Just head toward to the Conjurer’s Guild in the southwest area of Old Gridania. You should spot it on-route.

You’ll need to be on a level 80 (or above) combat class and have the Dawntrail expansion registered to your account to pick up the The Joy of Pictomancy quest. Grab that, run through it, and you’ll be given your starting set of Pictomancer gear. That’s how you become a Pictomancer in a nutshell.

FFXIV Pictomancer weapons

The Pictomancer uses a large paintbrush as a weapon. With the brush in one hand and a palette in the other, they paint parts on a canvas until a picture is fully formed before rendering a completed image to execute an attack.

How to level Pictomancer from 80 to 90 fast

The best way to quickly level a Pictomancer up to the Dawntrail story content threshold is likely to be level-appropriate dungeons between activities like daily roulettes, FATEs, hunts, and combat-specific beast tribe/tribal/allied race quests.

As a Pictomancer, you’ll likely hit long dungeon queues, which may make running with NPCs a faster alternative outside of a full party of friends.

Bozja is also a viable option that could suit the DPS class well to avoid such situations. Eureka Orthos is not a good source of experience points as it stands.

Whichever route you take, just be sure to wear the Dawntrail pre-order earrings for a large XP boost. Always eat food and have a Free Company EXP buff active when possible. Remember the challenge log, too: give out those commendations for a decent boost.
