All FFXIV Dawntrail Living Memory Aether Current locations
You’ll certainly remember this scavenger hunt
Zipline your way to the four major Living Memory Aether Current locations zones in the last Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail zone to unlock the means to fly to one of the more rewards FATEs yet.
Although you’ll collect a good chunk of the Aether Currents here through side-quests and main quests, you’ll still have to grab a bunch on foot as you make your way through the zone. You can do this before or after clearing the MSQ. The state of the zone doesn’t change their location.
Living Memory Aether Currents locations map
Finding the Living Memory Aether Currents takes time. The zone isn’t the easiest to traverse. Head to the circles on the map below to find them. The “!” icons signal the starting point of Aether Current side-quests unlocked by powering through the MSQ in the area. Check the quests section below for context.
Living Memory Aether Currents quests
You’ll need to complete the following quests to get the remaining Aether Currents in Living Memory:
- Well-wishing at the Wishing Well | Side-quest (clear MSQ “Gone and Forgotten” to unlock)
- Perplexing Puzzles, Endless Fun | Side-quest (clear MSQ “Gone and Forgotten” to unlock)
- Volcanic Disruptions | Side-quest (clear MSQ “Memories of a Knight” to unlock)
- Blueprint Protocol | Side-quest (clear MSQ “Memories of a Knight” to unlock)
- A Journey Never-ending | MSQ
Whether you’re collecting these during the main quest or after, their location remains the same. That means you’ll still need to teleport back to the main lobby in the south to take the ziplines to each area. Be aware that some Aether Current quests will take you close to the location of another—namely Volcanic Distruptions in the top-right zone and Perplexing Puzzles, Endless Fun in the bottom-right zone. It’s best to grab the quests as you pass the NPCs.
What are Aether Currents?
Aether Currents are collectibles you’ll find in each major zone from Heavensward onward. Collect the lot to unlock the ability to fly mounts in that specific zone.
Though most are collected out in the field, side-quests and main story quests reward the rest of the Aether Currents you’ll need to unlock flying in a zone.
It’s largely believed that the aether current system is in place to slow down the potential rapid consumption of expansion content. The main quests guide you along a specific path through a zone, encouraging you to take in the sights and sounds of each new location—aspects you might otherwise skip over due to the conveniences of flight.
