How to delete a Dragon’s Dogma 2 save on PC
Miss the Sphinx? It’s time to jump through some hoops
You’ll want to know how to delete a Dragon’s Dogma 2 save if you’ve messed up a mission, vocation selection, or simply just want to begin again. This applies to the PC platform only. Things are buried a little too deep to be simple.
With quests like the Sphinx being time-gated, one-time-only affairs, deleting your Dragon’s Dogma save is the only way to get a second chance. Deep into the game? Here’s how to learn Elvish and how to get the Warfarer Vocation. You can change your hairstyle without starting fresh, too.
How to delete a save file in Dragon’s Dogma 2 on PC
You can only have one save file in Dragon’s Dogma 2. You can’t make quick saves, save states, or anything that might help you fix a mistake in a quest, but the first post-launch DD2 update is likely to add a way to create a new save without following the steps below.
If you need a do-over, you’ll have to delete your DD2 save. Because there’s no menu to do this on PC, here’s what to do:
- Go to your Steam install location
- Go into the “userdata” folder
- Go into the folder that matches your SteamID
- Click the one that matches the DD2 game ID
- Delete the save file
- Turn off Steam Cloud to avoid it being recovered
- Start the game and make a new save
Where is the Steam install location?
If you don’t know where Steam is installed, the easier solution is to right-click your Steam shortcut and select “open file location”. This should take you to the right spot to continue from step 3.
What is my Steam ID?
If you have more than one folder in your “userdata” folder, you’ll need to get your Steam ID from beneath your username on your Steam Account Details page.
What is the Dragon’s Dogma 2 folder ID?
If you don’t know the Dragon’s Dogma 2 ID and don’t trust an online ID to be correct, you can avoid any mishaps, just launch the game, close it again, then sort the folders by most recent. It should now be the first one on the list.
Paste the number there into the SteamID site and the second value it returns should match the numbered folder on your PC.
Now that you’re free to make a new save game, consider using our Dragon’s Dogma 2 map and guides hub as you play. They might help you avoid another sticky situation.
