Bowser’s Fury Purple Switches and Lake Lapcat Cat Shines
Where to find the Purple Switches and Lake Lapcat Cat Shines
Purple Switches and Lake Lapcat Cat Shines are the subject of this guide, in which we break down each of these Cat Shine challenges and their location within this region of Bowser’s Fury.
Purple Switches Cat Shines
By the end of this guide, you’ll know where to find Purple Switches and Lake Lapcat Cat Shines, and for other regions you can click back to our Cat Shine locations guide for the other locations.
Hurry! Climb the Falls!
If you head west of Pounce Bounce Isle and go towards the waterfall, you’ll eventually see an island with a purple switch on it. Ground-pound the switch to make a series of platforms appear with the Shine at the top. You’ve got 20 seconds to reach the Shine: this is possible in any form but it’s easiest with Cat Mario because you can just climb straight up.
Cold Cove Combat
On the same island as Slipskate Slope you’ll find a large purple button. Jump on it and you’ll make a bunch of enemies appear. Kill all the enemies to make the Shine appear.
Slippery Skirmish
At the south-west corner of the island where you’ll find Crisp Climb Castle, there’s a blue switch. Ground-pound it to make a bunch of enemies appear. Kill them all to get the Shine.
Surprise Prizefight
North of the island where the Wasteland Giga Bell is based, you’ll see a little fork on the map with a small island at the end. On this island there’s a purple switch: ground-pound it to make a bunch of enemies appear. Defeat them to get the Shine. If you think you’ve got them all but the Shine hasn’t appeared, that’s because there’s an invisible enemy somewhere. Use a Fire Flower to try and hit it to make it appear.
Footprint Free-For-All
On the south-west corner of the island where the Wasteland Giga Bell is located, you’ll find a purple switch. Ground-pound it to make another series of enemies appear: defeat them all to get the Shine. This one is much easier with a Fire Flower.
Lake Lapcat Cat Shines
Climb to the Shine
Just to the left of the entrance to Fort Flaptrap, there’s a small platform with a cat switch on it. Hit it as Cat Mario to make the nearby pillar rise, then climb the pillar to get the Shine.
Gazing Down at the Islands
Next to the Ruins Giga Bell there’s a clear pipe. Go in this and you’ll get blasted into the air and land next to a speed boost. Run along it and keep running in a straight line to reach the Shine.
Go With the Floe
This Shine is in the air, in the middle of the water to the west of Trickity Tower (you’ll be able to see it from a distance). There are tiny, icy islands floating past it: head over to where they originate and climb one, making sure to reach the top platform before you reach the Shine. Careful, the platforms are made of ice so they’re really slippery.
Shining on a Hidden Isle
This Shine is just sitting there on an island: the problem is, it’s a far away one. Head south from the Wasteland Giga Bell on Plessie, then take a right turn (so you’re headed towards the bottom-left of the map, where the legend reading “you are here” is). Wait for Bowser to appear (or trigger him with a Bowser amiibo) and a jump will appear that lets you ride Plessie over to the hidden island.
On the Floodgate’s Edge
Directly to the east of Pipe Path Tower you’ll see a floodgate (a big wall in the middle of the water). The Shine is sitting on the top of the floodgate, right at the end, so you have to walk right along the top of it to reach it. Parts of the floodgate are made of Fury Blocks, so if Bowser has already destroyed them this will be a little bit trickier because you’ll need to make some big jumps too.
Gazing Over the Falls
On the bottom-right corner of the area where the Wasteland Giga Bell can be found, there’s a big stack of Fury Blocks. Get Fury Bowser to smash them with his fire breath to reveal a pipe: this fires you into the sky where you’ll find a series of blue springs. Fling yourself from spring to spring to reach the Shine.
Spin, Scramble, Shine
North of Risky Whisker Island, you’ll see a smaller set of islands. One of these has a cat switch on it. Select Cat Mario and hit it a couple of times to make a column appear with the Shine at the top. Quickly make your way over there and climb the column before it disappears to get the Shine.
Gazing Down at Lava
Head to the very top of Mount Magmeow and activate Cat Mario. Look around and you’ll see a floating platform in the sky, moving around the map in a set pattern. As it passes by you’ll see a wooden section hanging down that Cat Mario can climb up: climb it when you can reach it and you’ll find the Shine at the top.
Lucky Shines
When you unlock the ability to see all the Shines on the map, you’ll see five that are denoted by grey exclamation marks instead of red ones. Head to one of these areas when Fury Bowser appears and a giant golden platform will lower from the sky. Jump onto the platform and you’ll see five Shines on it: you can only collect one each time (because the Shine repels Fury Bowser and the platform disappears as a result). Some of the platforms may need propeller blocks to reach them: you should find one at the entrance to each of the islands near each platform.
