Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Review Roundtable: ‘90% of it is excellent, but 10% is rough’

This is a blog post, where VGC writers post irreverent and (occasionally) entertaining coverage of video game culture.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth reviews have been published ahead of the game’s release on February 29.

Before the reviews went live, VGC’s Jordan Middler sat down with Alex Donaldson of VG247, Ed Nightingale of Eurogamer and Jade King of TheGamer to discuss their views on the game.

In the video, which is embedded at the top of this page or can be viewed on our YouTube channel, numerous topics were discussed, including the game’s story, its side-quests, what it does better than Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the areas in which it falls a little short.

If you prefer to listen to the podcast instead of watching it on YouTube, the audio version of the roundtable will be added to podcast services tomorrow – we’ll update this article once it’s available.

VGC’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth review calls the game “an utterly massive RPG pushed to its limit”.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is an excellent RPG with some of the best characters in the gaming canon,” we wrote.

“While some open-world content skirts the edges, and the game’s main narrative is left somewhat deflated, the time spent with Aerith, Tifa, and the gang makes this a hugely enjoyable road trip you’ll be playing for hundreds of hours.”
