This is a blog post, where VGC writers post irreverent and (occasionally) entertaining coverage of video game culture.

Get a good look at these PlayStation 5 Nike shoes, because there’s a chance this might be the closest you’ll get to them.

Nike is teaming up with Sony to release two special colour options for its popular Nike PG5 basketball shoes, named after LA Clippers star Paul George.

One pair is coloured blue, and is designed to look like the PS5 menu screen. The other pair is coloured white, to resemble the PS5 console itself.

Oddly, there doesn’t appear to be a third option coloured red to match our faces when we hammer F5 to keep refreshing online stores to buy a PS5, only to realise bots have already grabbed them all.

Photos of the shoes first leaked on Instagram a couple of weeks back courtesy of Hong Kong sneaker leaker LACEUPHK, which is why you can see their watermark lovingly plopped onto each photo.

Sneaker Files have now reported that the shoes are planned for May, so you’d better get your F5 button-pressing finger warmed up in advance.

This isn’t the first time Nike, Paul George and Sony have teamed up to sell PlayStation shoes. Back in 2018 they collaborated to make the Nike PG2 PlayStation shoes, designed to celebrate George’s “affinity for the PS4 and his ability to bring his game wherever he plays, from the court to the console”. Which must be lovely.

Later that year the three teamed up again to release the Nike PG2.5 PlayStation shoes, designed to look like the original PlayStation. So they’ve got previous for this.

Those older shoes can still be found online but you’ll be expected to pay anything from $200-$500 for them.

These new PS5 shoes will launch sometime in May and will initially cost $110, but given how hard it is to buy both PlayStation 5 consoles and Nike shoes these days, they may as well cut open the heels and jam some rare old Pokémon cards in there too while they’re at it.
